1. Amend the constitution to (effectively) repeal the presumption that the 'persons' referenced in the 14h amendment was intended (absence a shred of evidence) to equate corporations (legal fictions) with living persons.
2. Neutralize the redistricting process by eliminating voting eligible persons' political affiliation, age, gender, employment, 'race,' religion, credit score, criminal history from the transparent data fed into redistricting software so that the sole detriments shall be the voter's physical residence.
3. Remove the redistricting process from the state legislature and establish an entity whose sole responsibility is to oversee the completely transparent operation of the algorithm and database employed in carving out districts that objectively represent the voters in the state.
Transparency is key because 'the public' has to be able to examine the database fed into the algorithm as well as the program/code itself to be certain that #2 is adhered to. And, essentially, download both and run it on other hardware to see if the results are identical.
The first item in my list is also as important to preserve and implement our long standing tradition and principle of "One Man (OK, or Woman), One Vote."
When I donate $15 to a campaign, I am required to identify myself by law. Fifteen Dollars for Christs sake! But Elon Musk can literally spend millions via a variety of fronts, or Pacs or Bundlers, and such and not have to report a dime of that spending.
People can buy a Supreme Court Justice a fancy ass motor home and neither party winds up in prison. Then they buy the judge's house and let his relative reside live there for free?
Shit, I can't get away with not wearing a seat belt without paying a couple hundred in fines and court costs.
And, those people funding such shenanigans need not even be Americans, or live in America - the money's that "dark."
Heck Musk wasn't born and raised in America - rather South Apartheid Africa and he's telling us how to make our government more efficient? And, he's funding all this with humongous federal contracts - when those rockets become red glare - taxpayers eat it.
I didn’t mean that as a preference of one over the other but as something that has been wanting that should have been done a long time ago. Especially in coordination with the 1st two. Given how our state legislature operates.
It’s a serious question to be answered. As with communication & being able to send that information has become a huge hurdle that needs addressing. Especially when you have the day after an election doing a spike in google searches on how to change “my vote”, the actual definition of tariffs & more.
Thanks for standing up for Americans! Thanks for being a hard worker who knows how to beca team member! Press on! Gid bless you and your family and team!!!
Also, as so many have already noted, one is most likely to succeed with an affirmative message for the voters as opposed to a partisan message.
I recall, during the Kerry campaign months of being in a roomful of Kerry Democrats wearing Beat Bush buttons and nary a one able to share an endorsement of John Kerry. Whatever his message, they did not have it on their lips.
"watering down legislative dominance" is a function of redistricting and, in North Carolina, a failure of the Democratic majorities in the state house to fix a system where a (statewide) majority party has the fewest number of congressional seats.
Gerry, there at the beginning, used the tricks RED MAP has so adroitly applied in every state they've managed to control.
That the current Supreme Court does not find the practice unconstitutional leaves it to 'the people' to amend the constitution. But, first, we've got to figure our what such an amendment need spell out lest the victory wind up doing greater damage.
Since we're talking orange cones: Stop road maintenance crews from closing a lane and setting out 1,000 orange cones over 10 miles for 3 months ... so that they can repair 100 yards of road at a time.
Thank you for all your work on behalf of the citizens of North Carolina! Now if we could just work on limiting and regulating the investigative powers of public-school HR Departments and move legal matters into the Judicial system for the adults and Juvenile Justice system for the students, we could eliminate the damage of incompetent Central Office employees.
Thank you and Governor Stein and other AGs for your fight against the opioid epidemic and for your win against the Pardue Pharma. I have greatly appreciated your newsletters sent by email which keep us informed about what is happening! I do not do social media, so I would like to think that we could continue hearing from you in these newsletters as well.
I wish you could convince your colleagues to do the same. I read your emails! I delete many of the emails I get from other politicians who write every day, to share info and ALWAYS to ask for more money. Personally I would stay more informed if I got emails at the frequency you sent them than Josh Stein (who is great, but sends way too many emails) and others.
I'm already a monthly supporter of your campaign, and a longtime supporter of yours. The Lighthouse Fund is a terrific idea. Is that a wholly separate initiative that I would need to support *in addition to* the main campaign? I am willing and able to do so; not complaining here! Just want to know if I'm really putting new funds into different pots.
Jeff, I’ve been a constituent since you were appointed to fill a vacated term in the North Carolina state Senate. I met you when you knocked on my door to ask for my vote in your run to be elected as a North Carolina state Senator. I keep writing to my US senators, about a letter a day, looking for a cause, way to get my request to them to DO SOMETHING!
Thank you, again for this latest endeavor for we the people of NC. Glad you tried the “Cones’ Course” as you have shown you will take calculated risks. You inspire us!
“After Trump attacked him yesterday for not supporting the budget reconciliation bill, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has announced he will not run for reelection next year, indicating his unwillingness to face a primary challenger backed by Trump. This puts the seat in play for a Democratic pickup.” - Heather Cox Richardson 6/30
I am an unaffiliated voter living in a heavily Democratic county. In my county, there are almost as many unaffiliated voters as there are Democrats. While I mostly support Democratic issues, I just don't love the Democratic party any more. So I truly appreciate efforts to target unaffiliated voters. I also think the power of social media can be used more effectively. If your posts to independent voters was restacked by at least some of us, the word could get out at *no cost.* Just something to think about as you plan your re-election strategy.
Thank you for sharing.
But this:“As things stand, millions of North Carolinians aren’t going to hear from me again until the next election.
Why?
Because newsletters like this, social media, and local news just don’t reach as many folks as you might think.
That’s not ideal. I’d love to share with them the fights we’re taking on, like this video from last week. I think they’d really appreciate it.
But we can’t run TV ads this early. Can’t afford it.
However, we can run a monthly digital message (on YouTube, Instagram, etc.) to roughly a million people in NC.
That’d cost about $9,500.””
This shouldn’t be this way, communication with the public should be straightforward without the noise & hassles.
But how do we fix it without massively restricting and restructuring elections?

I really like number three
Sorry, it's a "2+3 Package Deal."

ranked choice voting would sure help.

Thanks for sharing. What a super job you and Josh Stein are doing for our state.
My priority is watering down the Republican Legislative dominance.
And, how do you plan to do that?
Also, as so many have already noted, one is most likely to succeed with an affirmative message for the voters as opposed to a partisan message.

How will the opioid funds be used? Does any help the victims and/or their families, or does the state government keep it?
