I belive Ukraine is one of our most important issues of the day, and appreciate you are one of those addressing it and keeping us apprised. I hope support is put to a vote before it's too late. Speaker Johnson needs to figure this out NOW.
You can send money yourself. It was setup at the start of the war. Plus I don't think it's fair to force tax-payers who are not in favor of sending money.
Well I don't like my tax money going to subsidize hugely profitable industries e.g. Big Oil and Big Pharma. National policy is that which is decided upon by our elected leaders. Individual tax payers don't get to pick and choose how their tax money is spent in a representative democracy. I would think that supporting a large, European democracy from an unnecessary and brutal invader would be something every American would support.
I agree, I don't think that our taxes should subsidize Big Oil and Big Pharma. Or that we bail out Banks that gamble with our money and no repercussions. Big Tech that steal our information and spy on us then replace us with H1-B visas, outsourcing, and AI. We don't like and don't consent to these heinous policies. Why can't we have representatives that represent us American citizens, our interests and not those of the special interests, the foreign interests and their own conflicting interests? Isn't that what our country should be, isn't that ideal, what was promised to us?
Aren't these the issues our politicians should be focusing on? Shouldn't our statemens fight for our rights to do everything in their power to help our own citizens? Shouldn't we protect our borders instead others? Why have an army if anyone can just invade, squat in our homes and be given sanctuary even though they faced no persecutions, asylum from what? Being poor? We have our own poor. We need to demonstrate a government that takes care of our own, so that other countries can model our template and help their own citizens.
"you can still disagree, with respect without bloodshed." Tell that to Putin. The Ukrainians didn't aske for war. It's NOT Russophobic to oppose Russia's attempted takeover of a peaceful neighbor, a neighbor that willingly gave up nuclear weapons so as not to be a threat to Russia. Here's something for you to look up "Peace in our time" and see what that got Chamberlain, and the world.
PR is likely a Russian troll. They do a good job of watching all social media in English and putting in comments disparaging Ukrain or Supporting Putler
"Please comment in the present about the current world situation" - You started with links to events from 100+ years ago. How about you follow your own rules. And just so you know, your links don't impress anybody with half a brain. Your opinions and links to other people's opinions don't carry any weight.
"Ukraine was hardly a peaceful neighbor, the US assisted coup is historical fact." BS. Ukraine just wanted self determination. Just like Georgia. Ukraine did not want a Russian puppet (Yanukovych) running their country so hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians protested in the streets for months which culminated in the Orange Revolution and a Western aligned government. Please don't say that those thousands of protesting Ukrainians were American spies. Even then it was obvious that Putin was a power hungry dictator.
Russian aggression - Unlawfully annex Crimea, provide heavy weapons to pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass, unlawfully invaded Georgia and annexed Abkhazia and S. Ossetia.
Ukrainian aggression - ???? dared to defend itself when Russians tried to take over their country.
NATO doesn't do "incursions". It is a defensive alliance. It has never invaded any country, unlike Russia. The only place NATO borders Russian is in the Baltics. If the Russian military is scared of the "mighty" armies of Estonia and Latvia something is seriously wrong with the Russian military. Russian paranoia is not NATO's fault. What Russian and Putin really object to are functioning democracies that highlight the repression inherent in living under a dictator.
Please keep posting your revisionist nonsense. I really enjoy shooting holes in such fantasies. Oh, and you might want to stop drinking the colored vodka.
And and I would love to see your evidence, but I couldn't access The New York Times article because I really don't love giving out my personal information to websites that have. Good.
Incentives to sell it so could you please find a source that doesn't have any paywalls?
Nicholas I spent 20 years in the US Navy as a submariner holding Russia at bay during the cold war. I am frankly appalled at the new attitude that Russia isn't all that bad and it the cost to stand up to their aggression isnt worth it. You may not agree with me, but I feel its far better to confront aggression than ignore it.
Curtis I'm glad you feel proud in your accomplishments to our country. There are many servicemen that do not. Many soldiers are confused on why we were in Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan, then leaving feeling little was accomplished. Why invade Iraq when the 9/11 was by al-Qaeda and those terrorists were Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egyptian, and Lebanese; none Iraqi.
I guess I grew up in a time after the fall of the Soviet Union and Russia was adopting Democracy(aka Plutocracy capitalism like our own government) and I thought the Russians were no longer our enemy. I spent time in Eastern Europe like Ukraine. I've talked to the Donbas and Crimean locals. I've heard the other side from the horses mouth. These people are not our enemy.
But now the paid and bought media owned by corporations and our own Globalist oligarchs are saying that Russia is our enemy. Like we are back in the cold war that ended over 30years ago. I have always had a positive attitude with Russians, this reverting to cold war mentality is new to me.
I am American, as were my parents, my grandparents, my grandparents' grandparents back 13 generations has my family lived in America. And on behalf of my family I appreciate your service, the US does far too little for its veterans. I have always been willing to give my life to my country but not to the globalist oligarchs.
It’s absolutely fair and constitutional. There is a direct link to American National security and stability in Europe.. The WW2 European theater for US forces was just such an exercise of constitutional authority as we were not directly attacked by Germany. Go read about Charles Lindbergh and isolationism. You are a kindred spirit
I do know of Charles Lindbergh, he is a famous American aviator, inventor, and author. He was intelligent and kind, his work as an environmental and endangered species advocate was especially kindred to my spirit. Perhaps it would be good to listen to those that are kind and intelligent.
As a 64 yo history buff, I have seen and read about the cycles the USA seems to be stuck repeating.
The lasting effects of our government’s involvement in The Middle East has brought us nothing but hate, abuse, and distrust of any way we intervene; and we deserve it!
We’re subsidizing and arming Israel, while they continue to gleefully commit genocide.
At the exact same time we are failing to do anything; be it providing financial, or humanitarian aid, or weapons for the people/soldiers of Ukraine. WTF?
Stop all subsidies to Israel, there is a difference between anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist. What Israel is doing has nothing to do with faith, it’s a land grab. Netanyahu is playing a dangerous game, and preventing USA from focusing on our ability to aid Ukraine. Israel is capable of waging its hateful wars without our support.
Ukraine is not capable of defending itself against Russia without weapons we have, but refuse to provide.
For a "history buff" that's a pretty embarrassing take. Anyone who expected either Israel or the US to say "oh well!" after the atrocities of October 7th is thick. Of course Netanyahou over-reacted by an order of magnitude, which along with Zionist imperialism must be opposed...but...
I think one reason we will probably still support Israel is it represents one of our few successful nation states that we helped form and might be a symbol of American to Arab countries
Just to let you know North Carolina is where all the US ammunition that is going to Ukraine is being shipped from. Specifically Sunny Point (Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point) in Southport NC. The ammunition is being shipped to NATO countries and trans-shipped to Ukraine (usually by rail). They are also shipping military equipment (artillery systems, etc...) thru there also. So, NC is in the forefront of the aid to Ukraine.
Paranoid much!!! This is public knowledge, google Sunny Point. Nothing I have stated is sharing information with the enemy. Sunny Point is the only Ammunition port on the east coast. I served in the US Army for 26 Years, and I worked at Sunny Point for 15 years as a DA civilian. There are only people like you who don't know what they are talking about.
I understand what you are saying but the benefit of that people should know that NC is making a difference, and this makes up for any perceived minute information disclosure. Sunny point is already well known by our enemies (both foreign and domestic).
Helping Ukraine defend itself is defending democracy. I fail to comprehend why congressional Republicans are so averse to helping Ukraine after we spent trillions invading Iraq, that Republicans roundly supported, and now want to abandon Ukraine. It is yet more evidence that the Republican Party has become the Party of Putin. I wonder how much that fascist is paying them?
the kiddos are adorable! i miss those days, mine are long since grown. treasure these years, they go by so swiftly. like a blink and they are off out on their own.
Please support Dem votes to keep Johnson in place and get support to Ukraine asap. Another round of Rep chaos doesn't do us any good. Your updates are superb!
Jeff, as always, thank you for your latest message. I appreciate your addressing the Ukrainian funding issue. As our Congress dithers and squabbles, Russia rains ballistic missiles on to Ukrainian infrastructure and citizens. Ukraine's need for air defense supplies has become existential.
What are you and your Democrat colleagues in both the House and the Senate doing to put pressure on Johnson to present a bill and to help it pass? What leverage do you have and are using? Can you help make it more painful for Johnson NOT to act than to act?
Thank you Jeff. I share your messages with all of my friends outside of North Carolina. They're so glad to get information because none of their representatives communicate like you do.
Iran is the terrorist state. Where do you think the hundreds of missiles that land in Israel every week come from? Israel has every right to defend against a state that actively works to destroy it
Israel has been terrorizing Palestinians since the nakba in 1948. It actually started before then. Israel has been stealing Palestinian land and slaughtering Palestinians for a very long time. Anything Palestinians do is resistance to horribly evil occupiers!
Tell that to the 67 Jews murdered in 1929 by Palestinians. Or maybe explain why Adolph Eichmann was the guest of Palestinian leaders so that he could learn how to kill Jews well before 1948.
Fundamentally Palestinians are just anti immigrant and anti semitic. These things have gotten them where they are and they have doubled down on their same old beliefs.
Now the extremists will have their way in this war.
Jeff Jackson I urge you to prioritize American citizens over foreign nations. The Ukrainian war is more complex than western media has us believe. The West should have never expanded NATO to Russia borders that is hostile and is unnecessarily provoking Russia. We the US would not like if Cuba or a close neighboring nation would enter into a hostile alliance. Please explore peaceful resolutions.
Your right Nicholas, the war is much more complicated than a land grab. It’s about a fundamental shift in thinking. It is the advancement of civilization. The very recognition of the benefits of trying to have a society that lives by the rule of law rather than the whims of dictators and oligarchs.

David: Good call. You are absolutely right about that!
Gearing up for the upcoming election?
"Ukraine was hardly a peaceful neighbor"
"the US assisted coup is historical fact"
"Putin offered decent peace terms to start with"
"Evidence is he didn't want war, he wants a buffer from NATO incursion"
There is not a doubt in the world that pr is a Russian troll.

So proud of the work that you are doing and of the way that you keep us informed.

We read every update; keep them coming. Thank you.
Jeff, thanks for the great work you're doing in DC, including your informative emails!

I am not in North Carolina and that is the truth. Love this newsletter. I wish Jeff represented my state. Maybe in the Presidential race someday?
The most responsive and balanced Congressman that does not represent this Florida resident.
How is it that Israel has not been declared a Terrorist State? They bombed the Iranian embassy in Syria.
Had any other country done this, it would have immediately been denounced as terrorism by our government.
Step away USA!
Repudiate our support for these Israeli government policies.
Iran is the terrorist state. Where do you think the hundreds of missiles that land in Israel every week come from? Israel has every right to defend against a state that actively works to destroy it

Who is a terrorist dependents on who's side your on we acted similar to terrorist in some Arab countries
See my original post.
We are no better, we are often the supply chain of weapons. It’s an U.S. industry.

We need to attack some of the ideas in Russia that keep the status quo thar perpetuates the war
