It's particularly helpful for someone to give insight into real-world examples of how Congress "works". If only more members of Congress shared the same concern and willingness to educate and communicate with constituents and non-constituents alike.
Age 81 (and a Republican), I feel the same. We remember when both parties worked together and arm wrestled the best way forward without the crazies grandstanding.
Barry Goldwater was right when he warned us about the religious zealots taking control of the GOP. There is no compromise with today's GOP. You either are with them or you are the enemy, to be crushed utterly.

Just my thoughts, the USA is fast to send its military to save and protect the citizens of other countries from their dictators, but it cannot save and protect its own citizens from the Mass Shootings and the Daily Killings on USA streets. Go figure. Talking about dictatorships, when AIPAC dictates to the members of congress how to vote, is that not a dictatorship? I do not want my taxes to go for the war effort in the Ukraine. Instead of sending weapons by the USA, they should send a high-profile diplomat to Russia to stop this war. Not Blinken, he started it when he said it is non-negotiable to Russia when Russia demanded, no troops or missiles be placed next to its borders. If this war is not stopped soon, not only the Ukraine will be destroyed, but a nuclear war will also end the world.
LOL go away Vatnik. The Russians need to be kicked tf out of Ukraine by any means necessary--diplomacy won't work, because the Russians want their empire back and anything short of allowing them to have the whole of Ukraine won't even work with them.
I love these updates - I trust and believe Jeff Jackson - thank you!! I learn a lot and like your perspective - which is often wryly humorous as you encounter irl what passes as our government. And I also appreciate that you maintain a respectful and level-headed analysis, despite needing to interact with, for want of a nicer word, performative politicians who are just out for the headlines. Thanks for keeping it real - and your AI image was hilarious. Maybe politicians gulping down Monster drinks at 10 AM is the reason for all the dysfunction!
