Jeff- can you sue to keep Elon Musk, an unelected, non-government employee out of the Treasury Department and US Government systems?

AG Jackson, I am also asking that you file suit against Elon Musk and anyone who has enabled him to go into confidential files and programs and see or copy information that he, an unelected official from an office not sanctioned by Congress, has no right to. Also, he and Pres Trump are firing many government employees or locking them out of their offices and computers without cause. Please look into this and help us maintain our Democracy. I’m glad that you are in the AG office to support NC!

Can we do a class action lawsuit against Elon Musk? He has no excuse for what he did and needs to be held accountable for this!

Clearly the federal government has been pillaged and public servants removed to have idle figureheads in charge to do DJTs bidding so the only way we can stop this madness rests in the states. Never before this would we have seen someone in a position like Musk be able to access the things he has been able to access. I fear for democracy.

Great column, Jeff! The new major concern is Musk’s access to all the Treasury computers including our personal financial information. Will NC file a lawsuit on behalf of its citizens to block this? Scary times indeed.

How about an unelected, illegal alien being deported? There is nothing at all constitutional about what Elon is doing to our governmental institutions. His “department” is completely imaginary; pulled out of trump’s behind. Everything he is doing needs to be stopped in its tracks. Jeff, what can all the state AGs do about this horribly serious breach of personal information?

Yes but he came into this country illegally from Canada on a student visa but instead of matriculating, he decided to work with his brother who also entered illegally to work on his first money-making project. He cheated as most right wingers would now say about migrants. Too bad we didn’t kick his ass out back then.

What is happening in our state with the impact of Bill 382 on all our duly elected Dem leaders, including you as AG?

Thank you, again!

It appears the data privacy rights of millions of NC residents have been violated by Elon Musk and associates who do not even have formal government positions let alone the security clearance or legitimate purposes to do what they are doing. Please sue to restore data privacy rights and to seek redress for injuries already sustained.

AG Jackson - thank you for what you've done so far.

You MUST now sue US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Elon Musk and the six kids Musk had hack into the US Treasury payroll system. North Carolinians' personal information has been severely (and probably irreparably) compromised.

*Every single state AG in the country should sign on to taking action against these 8 people as the crime has been widely reported and these are the eight directly responsible.*

This is a crime in plain sight: please prosecute it to the full extent the law dictates.

I agree with you a lawsuit that includes people that help Musk along with Bessent and anyone else. All the information has all ready been taken so these people need to face legal action for their crimes.

Is there any NC statute on which you can sue Elon Musk? He's not a federal employee, so it could be done in state court? Can you join with other State AGs to sue Musk for unconstitutionally taking over the reins of power from the federal govt?

Thank you for keeping this column and keeping us updated. My major concern now is that Musk, unelected private "citizen", has gained access to all of our confidential information in violation of privacy laws and federal transparency laws. He has seized control of the payment portal in the Treasury Department. This data includes SS#, Date of birth, address and all personal information. This is an incredible data breech in addition to causing major stress for NC families trying to protect their credit, investments, and savings. What can we do? Can NC do anything legally to protect its citizens?

It’s way longer than 13 minutes but so worth the time. It actually gave me some hope. I am a SS disability recipient and if I lose the little bit of money I am paid by SS each month my husband and I will end up homeless and if I lose Medicare I will literally die because I won’t be able to afford the medicines that keep me alive. So each day I read about what Trump and Musk have done and are going to do, I get very sad, fearful, and full of worry - not one of those emotions is very healthy when one feels them on a daily basis and the intensity rarely subsides. That can lead to disease in itself - rarely do I feel much hope for our country and all the countries these evil men are hurting, but after watching this video I do feel a bit of hope for us. 😊

Thanks for the update Jeff. Regarding the spending freeze, Musk and his lackies still have access to the treasury's payment system. While they may not have the authority or right, they have the technical access to see loads of confidential and classified data, and to block payments. And those who are trying to stand up to them are being fired. Scary.
